C.T.A. AGAR

Description

C.T.A. (Cystine trypticase Agar) is a medium indicated for the cultivation, maintenance of a variety of demanding micro-organisms. This medium functions well for the mobility test that is carried out inoculating by insertion; the micro-organisms characterised by mobility develop completely along the insertion line.

C.T.A. Medium is utilised also for the fermentation test of the sugars (dextrose, saccarose, malt, trealose and lactose) in the differentiation of pathogenous species such as Neisseria, Corynebacterium, Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, and non sporigenous anaerobic bacteria. The fermentation of the sugars is revealed by a colour change of the medium to yellow with the production of acid. Whilst the non fermenting micro-organisms do not create any colour change to the medium.
