Description

Defibrinated horse blood forms a source of nutrients for the cultivation of most bacterial species, including the most fastidious species. Horse's blood allows to highlight the hemolytic reactions and provides both the factor X (EME) and the factor V (NAD), which are necessary for the growth of numerous bacterial species, e.g. Haemophilus influenzae, which require both factors. 

It is used in the production of Agar Columbia, Agar Schaedler, Blood agar and other media contain blood; Horse blood is used to highlight the hemolitic properties of microorganisms like Streptococci, Staphylococci, Haemophilus …

Defibrination is done mechanically without the addition of preservatives.
