Description

Burkholderia Cepacia Agar is a selective medium used for the isolation of Burkholderia Cepacia from clinical specimens. Burkholderia cepacia (Pseudomonas cepacia) is an opportunistic pathogenic microorganism that causes serious lung infections in patients with cystic fibrosis. Gram-negative bacillus positive floating aerobic oxidase, commonly isolated in humid environments, able to survive in hostile substrates as antiseptics, disinfectants, distilled water and non sterile products used in the hospital.

Burkholderia grows slowly in conventional medium, as it is inhibited by the growth of other less demanding microorganisms.

Burkholderia cepacia Agar must be supplemented with Burkholderia Cepacia Selective Supplement cod. 76.053.
