DEFIBRINATED RAM BLOOD

Description

Defibrinated Ram blood forms a source of nutrients for the cultivation of most bacterial species, including the most fastidious species. It is used to highlight the hemolitic properties of microorganisms like Streptococci, Staphylococci, Haemophilus. Ram Blood is added to the agarized medium (Agar Columbia, Agar Schaedler, Blood agar) for the preparation of fresh or cooked agar. The choice of the medium depends on the microorganism. The blood concentration is generally 5%, but may vary depending on the use and procedures in place in the laboratory.

Defibrination is done mechanically without the addition of preservatives.
